¡¡¡¡On March 17th 2017, Professor Ian Manners from University of Bristol was invited to visit School of Materials and made a presentation.

¡¡¡¡

¡¡¡¡On the morning of Mar.17th, Professor Ian Manners had a meeting with executive vice president Yang Bin in the room 211 of administration building. During the meeting, president Yang Bin made a brief introduction about history and profile of BIT (Beijing Institute of Technology). After that, they had a discussion about future cooperation and reached consensus on several issues. Director of office of human resources Yan Yan, deputy director of office of human resources Jin Haibo, dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering Zhang Qingshan, assistant dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering Zhang Jiatao and Li Xiaoyu, Young Overseas High-level Talent attended the meeting.

¡¡¡¡

¡¡¡¡In the afternoon, Professor Ian Manners made a presentation titled ¡°Living¡¯ Crystallization-Driven£¬Seeded Growth Approaches to Functional Supramolecular Materials¡± to all teachers and students in Room 101.The report is one of ¡°Forefront of Academic Research in the 21st Century¡± academic exchange activities. More than 150 students (including undergraduates, postgraduate students and Ph.D. students) and professors listened carefully to the report hosted by Professor Zhang Jiatao, assistant dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering. Professor Zhang Qingshan, dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering, also attended the lecture.

¡¡¡¡

¡¡¡¡Professor Ian Manners reported mainly about the progress in the emerging crystalline block copolymers self-assemble. Starting from research about Block copolymersself-assemble in solution, professor Ian Manners also talked about his pioneering research in many aspects, such as crystallization-driven self-assemble behavior of crystalline block copolymer, self-assembled block type micelle, super micelles formed after multiple levels assembling, one-dimensional materials and two-dimensional materials structure and so on. After the lecture, both teachers and students had a deep understanding of the polymer science research and had a discussion about it.

¡¡¡¡Professor Ian Manners is a world-famous inorganic, polymer and materials chemist, professor of chemistry department in the University of Bristol, fellow to the Royal Society of Canada (FRSC), fellow of the Royal Society of London (FRS) and professor of European Union Marie Curie Chair. Actively self-assembled driven by crystalline block copolymers proposed by Professor Ian Manners is an emerging research hotspot in the field of polymer science. Professor Ian Manners¡¯ research in this field largely developed theories of Supramolecular self-assemble. Besides, lots of relevant research results have been published on many high-level academic journals. Professor Ian Manners have more than 630 papers (H-index="86£¬frequency of citation>21000) published. He has his thesis published on Science£¨7£©£¬series of Nature"£¨17£©£¬JACS£¨>90£©£¬Angew£¨>50£©. In addition, professor Ian Manners also possessed 11 invention patents, wrote 4 professional books and has delivered more than 500 speeches and reports.
