BIT and German Partner Universities Successfully Hold Sino-German Seminar on Engineering Education

¡¡¡¡Co-planned and organized by the School of Mechanical Engineering, the Office of International Affairs, the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs and the Office of International Students, Sino-German Seminar on Engineering Education- 'New Stage, Creative Collaboration' was successfully held in the Center of International Communication and Cooperation of Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT) on March 28 and 29. German engineering education and international management experts from RWTH Aachen University, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universit?t Hannover, Otto-von-Guericke-Universit?t Magdeburg and Hochschule Konstanz Technik and more than 20 teachers of BIT took part in the Seminar. Attendants of the seminar included: Director Tang Shuiyuan of the Office of International Affairs , Deputy Director Xing Qingqing, Deputy Director Xu Jin of the Office of Undergraduate Academic Affairs, Director Wang Ying of the Office of International Students, Secretary Pang Haishao of the Institute of education, Deputy Director Fan Chunping of the Office of Academic Journals, Vice-Dean Wu Zhiwen of the School of Aerospace Engineering, Party Secretary Zuo Zhengxing of the School of Mechanical Engineering, and Deputy Dean Feng Huihua and He Hongwen. Feng Huihua hosted the seminar.

¡¡¡¡Xing Qingqing represented BIT to deliver a speech in the opening ceremony of the seminar. At first, she welcomed and appreciated the visit of German experts sincerely. After briefly reviewing the history of talent training, academic communication and science cooperation of BIT and German partner universities, she mainly introduced the undergraduate international communication cooperation situation at present and the plan for deeper international communication in the future.

¡¡¡¡Seminar included three topic: Engineering Education in University, Management of International Students and Management of International Students. It has six meeting reports on various areas, such as the system and main patterns of Sino-German education, the course system and program settings of Mechanical Engineering, students¡¯ innovation practices and the experience of conducting internship programs, and the enrollment and management of international students.

¡¡¡¡Responsibility Professor Zhang Xu of Mechanical Engineering program (English Course) of the School of Mechanical Engineering gave a report titled, Engineering Education and Student Exchange Programs with German Universities of BIT. He introduced establishing background, course system setting scheme, engineering education methods, English major establishment and the implementation situation of exchange student programs with German University.

¡¡¡¡Director Yin Wang of the International Cooperation Agency of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Universit?t Hannover delivered a report named Learning Culture in Germany, which mainly introduced course types and teaching characteristics, settings and applications of the public teaching platform and resources of engineering majors in German Universities and compared the differences of engineering education in Chinese and German universities.

¡¡¡¡Professor Gunter Voigt, deputy dean of the School of Electronics Engineer and Information technology of Hochschule Konstanz Technik made a report named Engineering Education at Universities of Applied Sciences. The report took the example of his own university and introduced the position, major settings, personnel training patterns, cooperation education of schools and enterprises in detail.

¡¡¡¡Later, in the theme report Management of International Students, reports of Professor Peter Hartges, director of China Area of International Agency of RWTH Aachen University and Ms Diana Nikolaus, director of Otto-von-Guericke-Universit?t Magdeburg, both introduced and analyzed international students' studies and living situation in Germany, including the situation of Chinese students, from the technical perspective and the operational level. Accordingly, they gave targeted suggestions and advice.

¡¡¡¡In the theme report Future Collaborations in Mechanical Engineering, Feng Huihua gave a report named Facts of Education, Research and International Cooperation in School of Mechanical Engineering, which mainly introduced the course system settings, characteristics of the training of students' practices and innovation abilities. She also reported the advantage scientific research areas of the school as well as the future focus of the school¡¯s international communication. Participants discussed warmly about the specific contents of the report and related affairs of Sino-German engineering education.

¡¡¡¡After the seminar, accompanied by leaders and teachers of the School of Mechanical Engineering, the German experts visited the Students' Innovation and Practice Base and learned the experimental conditions. They specially joined in the communication activity with exchange undergraduates to German of School of Mechanical Engineering. The success of the seminar and related activities deepened the understanding and trust between BIT and German partner universities and provided an important platform for student exchange, cooperative cultivation, and teachers' communication and scientific cooperation of BIT and German partner universities.
