President of University of Bristol Visited BIT

¡¡¡¡On the afternoon of April 16th, a delegation of five people from the University of Bristol in the UK visited BIT.President of BIT, Zhang Jun, met with President Hugh Brady in Liang Xiang campus.

¡¡¡¡On behalf of the school, Zhang Jun extended a warm welcome to President Hugh Brady and vice President Erik Lithander for the visit to BIT. He said that the University of Bristol is a leading university in the UK, with outstanding academic standing in the fields of engineering, such as machinery, aerospace and information, as well as mathematics and physics. Beijing Institute of Technology and the University of Bristol have good foundation of cooperation. Possessing their respective advantages in talents cultivation, the two universities should broaden the multidisciplinary cooperation, combined with their respective advantages to strengthen the academic exchanges as well as academic seminar held on regularly. Zhang supports the professors of the two sides to form a cooperation team to jointly apply for the international research cooperation fund. Zhang said that he welcomes professors from the University of Bristol to pay a visit to BIT. He also suggested that both of them should select advantageous subjects to gradually advance the "3+1+1" project in the fields of student exchanges and joint training of talents.

¡¡¡¡Hugh Brady thanked BIT for its warm reception. Previously, he said, as the President of the University of Dublin, Ireland and Erik Lithander had visited the Zhongguan Cun campus, which marked the first visit to BIT, and he was left a deep impression. He expressed strong agreement with Mr. Zhang to two schools in personnel training and scientific research cooperation proposals, introduced in detail the advantages of the university of Bristol discipline, and put forward the possibility of cooperation withBIT in fields of mechanics, information and communication. He  said he was willing to cooperate to promote the twouniversities. Hugh Brady invites Zhang Jun to visit the University of Bristol when it is convenient.

¡¡¡¡The director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office Tang Shui, director of the international student center Wang Ying, and some other officials attended the meeting.

¡¡¡¡Professor Andrew Nix, dean of the school of engineering of the university of Bristol, professor of electrical and electronics engineering, Xibo Yuan, and director of the International Office, Lorna Cuckow were on the visit. The relevant personnel from School of mechanical and Vehicle, School of Information and Electronics, School of automation and International Student Center of BIT made profound discussions on the cooperation between the two degree programs, the communication between teachers and students and the joint academic research in Zhongguan Cun campus, which both sides agreed to further promote. The two sides also agreed to enhance cooperation on student exchanges and the "3+1+1" double degree programs. In July, the University of Bristol will send 43 students to the summer program of BIT.
