School of Mechatronical Engineering
School of Mechatronical Engineering is one of the oldest schools in Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). The school has cultivated and turned out nearly 10,000 undergraduate students, over 2,900 postgraduates and about 1,000 Ph.Ds. At present, there are 928 undergraduates, 382 postgraduates, 377 Ph.Ds, 9 overseas students and 248 engineering masters studying at the school.
The school consists of Department of Unmanned System Engineering, Department of Mechatronical System Engineering, Department of Mechanics and Engineering, Department of Energy and Power Engineering, Department of Detection and Control Engineering, Department of Safety Engineering and Research Institute of Humanoid Robots. The school is proud of 192 faculty and staff, including 2 members of China Academy of Engineering, 3 national outstanding experts, 3 Distinguished Professors awarded by Cheung Kong Scholars Program, 2 winners of China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists, 3 New Century Excellent Talents in University under Ministry of Education, 48 professors, and 48 associate professors. The school also possesses 1 innovation team of Cheung Kong Scholars Program of Ministry of Education and 1 innovation team for National Defense Science and Technology. 132 faculty members own Ph.D degree.
The school currently has 6 bachelor’s programs and 10 graduate programs.
The school runs 1 national first-level key discipline, 2 national second-level key disciplines, and 3 postdoctoral scientific research stations. In recent years, one paper was accredited the title of National 100 Excellent Dissertations for Doctor’s Degree and 2 papers were nominated as National Excellent Dissertations for Doctor’s Degree.
The school runs State Key Laboratory of Explosion Science and Technology and National Key Laboratory of Mechatronical System.
Since 2000, the school has won 3 China’s National 2nd Prizes in Technology Invention and 4 China’s National 2nd Prizes in Science and Technology Progress. In the last three years, funding for scientific research exceeds 100 million RMB per annum. The school was awarded 37 provincial or ministerial prizes for scientific achievements, and was offered more than 90 authorized patents. More than 1,200 papers were cited by SCI, EI and ISTP.
The school has established strong academic exchange with Bauman Moscow State Technical University, D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia, The University of Manchester, Waseda University, Nagoya University, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, etc. The school has set up Joint Research Center for Urban and Public Safety with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Every two years, the school holds International Symposium on Safety Science and Technology and International Autumn Seminar on Propellants, Explosives and Pyrotechnics, respectively.
